Prep Hoops Roundup: Woods Cross girls upset Viewmont in Region 5

BOUNTIFUL — Woods Cross outscored Viewmont 15-5 in the second quarter and held on for a 54-47 road win Wednesday to spoil the Vikings’ unblemished region record.

Sara Noel scored 20 points with five 3-pointers to lead Woods Cross (13-7, 4-3 Region 5). Riley Aiono scored 11 points and Paige McKenna added 10.

Mercedes Staples totaled a game-high 33 for Viewmont (15-2, 5-1) with two treys but was the only Viking to score more than seven points.

ROY 56, BOUNTIFUL 40

ROY — Josie Williams scored 29 points to lead Roy over Bountiful in the region tussel.

Autumn Vernon tallied nine points and Brittney Hatch added eight for Roy (14-4, 5-1 Region 5). The Royals shot 35 free throws and converted 27. Williams went 17 of 18 from the free-throw line and Hatch hit 5 of 6.

Kaisley Larsen led Bountiful (2-17, 0-7) with 13 points and Tashina Ashby scored 10.

ST. JOSEPH 54, UTAH MILITARY 27

RIVERDALE — St. Joseph took a 34-8 lead into the halftime break and took the region win at Utah Military.

Virginia Tomon led St. Joseph (6-12, 3-6 Region 16) with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Kathleen Von Hoffman had eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Gracie Fergus added 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Raegan Furniss scored eight points to lead Utah Military (1-13, 0-8). Rae McBride and Dylan Furniss each scored seven points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

BONNEVILLE 58, PARK CITY 54

PARK CITY — Bonneville took a four point lead after the first quarter at Park City (4-15, 1-9 Region 11) and made that lead hold up for a win.

Hank Bushell had 14 points 16 rebounds to lead Bonneville (7-11, 4-5). Tyler Hancock talled 12 points and 10 rebounds while DJ Frye added 10 points.

GREEN CANYON 69, BEAR RIVER 65

GARLAND — Green Canyon hit four free throws in the last nine seconds to steal the region road game at Bear River.

Bear River (14-5, 4-3 Region 12) allowed Green Canyon (11-10, 5-2) to hit nine 3-pointers in the first half, resulting in a 43-22 halftime lead for the Wolves. The Bears came all the way back to tie the game at 65 with 1:03 left but did not score again.

Parker Coombs led Bear River with 14 points. Jacob Olsen and Ren Fonnesbeck each scored 13 with Olsen hauling in 10 rebounds. Wyatt Roholt added 11 points.

JUAN DIEGO 75, BEN LOMOND 57

OGDEN — Ben Lomond fell behind 26-8 at home to Juan Diego (17-4, 10-0 Region 11) after one quarter in the region loss.

Sudan Puk had 17 points and five rebounds to lead Ben Lomond (2-16, 1-8). Garet Rentmeister added 12, all on 3-pointers.
